My first post here, and I am so glad I found this forum. I put an old Ford YT-16 together (for the most part...still need a few little things) from Ebay, and have it now running just fantastic. I LOVE the little mower.
I have been wrenching on cars my entire life, worked for General Motors for a while, and at dealerships. Having a wrench in my hand is nothing new to me....but working on mowers is. I have some medical issues and doing cars any longer is really out of the picture, but little tractors....now that I am having fun with.
Enough wordy stuff on to the question.....
I have my FIL's old SS/16 and it blew a nice hole in the side of the block about 10 years or so ago. Now that I have the little ford going and it is scratching that itch of turning a screwdriver I am looking at this old thing and thinking....can I make this go again. I checked out replacement engines of the same kind and about had a heart attack. So now I am thinking about doing a repower....but most of the engines when you get up to 20+ HP get pretty expensive to me.....north of $1000 is really more then I want to spend.
I then came across this guy that turns little tractors into hot rod mud toys and he has a little diesel engine in his....10 HP for around $400 or so. That sounds interesting. But I want to mow with the thing as well, or at very least use it as a little tractor if I can't source a deck with the new services I found on this site.
Any suggestions on how to get this machine up and running again.
Thanks, sorry for being so wordy.
A quick pic of the Ford on the "hook" I still need some small parts for the Ford.
