Just finished the Bush Cash.  No points, no money, just experience and possibly a win.  Unfortunately there will be a lot of haulers between Daytona and the car shops in Carolina. Most of the back up cars for the 500 were tore up real bad.  Had 5 cars to finish the race and all of them carried heavy damage.  Will see what happens Thursday night when the stage is set for the 500 on Sunday.  Let the season begin !!

I think it would be good to revise NASCAR to race SMART type cars. More fun than costantly detuning big cars to keep it safe.

For some one that has been around Racing all his life I rather hit the wall at 175 in a Detuned Big car then hit a wall at 40 in a smart car.   Smaller dont mean safer.

 "Smaller dont mean safer. "

But, you didn't hit the wall at 200mph with the junior size. Maybe 45.

" Junior size" ? ?  Never heard of that size before.  Must be a Pro Street or Hobby stock.  Good race to start the Xfinity season yesterday.  Truck race Friday night had some excitement when the truck went sliding and spinning down the track on its top.  Driver walked away.

All kinds of racing and related events all week at Daytona.  Should be a good race today.  Once they get the fuel flowing past the restrictor plate it will be wide open throttle.  It's all about speed, that's why they call it racing.

Those smart cars aren't even safe in an ant hill let along a race track.

One definite fact about driving a "smart car".  If your involved in an accident you will be the first one there, and a good chance the last one to leave.

NASCAR facts;  First Daytona 500 was held in 1959, Feb 22 nd.  There were NO caution flags.

One hour till green.

The pre-race festivities were truly spectacular.  What a parade lap with JJ leading the field as his last 500.  Back under rain delay after 19 laps.  Going to be a night race or possibly finish up tomorrow.  Lot of time left to get it all in though.

Yep.  2 of them.  Good hard racing till they went in to the last tri-oval.  Then things got kind of nasty.  Newman took some hard hits, two on the left door.  At the hospital now.  Hope he is OK without any lasting injuries. As safe as those cars are, one never knows.  As Jeff Gorden said, it is a dangerous sport.   Don't take much to lose control at 200+ mph.  I think the fastest I saw show up was 205+.   And Jeff don't have to wear a KC Chiefs jersey.

Update:  Ryan Newman's injuries are serious but not life threatening.   Joe Gibbs apologizes to the Newman crew & family as they did not know the seriousness  of Newman wreck at the time they celebrated the victory. .  .
