So, on my 140 with K241, I was trying to start it up after fixing the fuel system, and now, instead of getting nothing, I get smoke out the carb. It started as white smoke out the exhaust (which I expected, with the glazed cylinder) but after a few pops all the smoke quickly stopped coming out the exhaust and only comes out the carb now. I'm thinking some carbon came from the cylinder and maybe scratched the valve seat, so I've got a valve lapping kit coming. Think that is the problem?

Here's a video:

Is that when it's running or just trying to start?

It may be fuel shooting back out of carb,

Trying to start. Doesn't start because of how bad the compression loss is.

I am thinking then the intake valve is stuck open, gas is drawn in, valve stays open, so instead of compressing the gas, it shoots right back out the open valve again.

They open and close fine. It builds compression, so it wouldn't a stuck valve. It just shoots all the compression out the intake when trying to start.

have you tried removing the muffler and trying it?

a blocked muffler could cause it to blow back thru the carb

That doesn't make sense. How can it build compression and yet blow it out the intake? Unless it's out of time.

That is my thought. TIMING.

If the valve is burned or not seating will it could build some compression, but blow smoke back through the car since the ignited fuel has more pressure than the compressed air.

Just thinkin'

I am thinking the 241 has a blow by tube from the crank case to the air cleaner. Can't see in the vidio if the smoke is coming from the carb or the blow by.   Don

Carb. Fully out the intake, none out the breather.

The muffler has fine flow, worked fine before.

If the valve is burned or not seating will it could build some compression, but blow smoke back through the car since the ignited fuel has more pressure than the compressed air.

It builds barely enough compression to fire, but then the increase in pressure from combustion shoots the compression out the intake.

I had my cub 129 doing the same thing last weekend. The starter generator would barely spin it, it would fire and spin 1/2 a turn backwards so the charge would go in thru the intake and back out thru the intake.

Wait! When you say carb, do you mean an engine part . . .        or drug paraphernalia?
