Here are the very first pics of the PayHauler 350 Model I started building last Thurs. I sat 8 tires on the workbench along with some 18 ga. sheet metal . I saved about 3 dozen photos and one side line drawing and one front line drawing. Here is my progress so far. I still got a ways to go but I am pleased so far . I might work on this model one more week and set it aside and start one more new model before I go back and start to finish them all up.

Yes, I hand shape every piece out of metal. It will weigh around 25 lbs. I will build the radiator and a Detroit Diesel engine for it next week.

Thanks , these two progress pics show the engine, the radiator and the exhaust system now roughed in. The real truck had a v-16 Detroit Diesel . Seeing the model at this stage is pretty rough to look at. But once it is all cleaned up and the filler is added to any rough spots it looks so much nicer. Tomorrow I will build the dash, the seat, both side consoles with levers and three foot pedals to get some detail inside the cab. I'm having a hard time setting this one aside and starting on number 5 model. It is such fun after 7 years of being away from model building .

Thanks , I just use a 140 wire welder with no gas, just flux core .030 wire.

Todays progress shows the cab interior completed and me starting the dumpbox frame . My wife activated me a Twitter account today and I will start adding regular progress pics there too. Anyone interested can click it at { doncampbelljd }  Thanks for the kind words and for letting me share my projects here .

Here are the last two pics of the dump truck progress for a while. Tomorrow I will build the last few parts and then set this aside . Next week I will get going on model number number 5. That will use up four more tires. Then as I return to the other four models I will share the finishing stages of them.

Crazy, we used to run those at a strip mine I worked at up in Northern PA.  We used to draw straws to see who got the cat 777 or the pay haulers.  The 777 was a lot more comfortable!

Really neat build!

Very cool you drove them !!

Todays service truck project shows I added a welder , aux fuel tank, and a air compressor unit on the left side of the box. Also a rear bumper, tail lights, and a work vise. 4 lube reels and a light bar behind the cab and 8 more spot lights. Working on flaring the rear fenders now.
