bought A John Deere 116/117 oh. It didn’t have the drive belt on it and can’t find any diagrams to put it back on. It’s is a hydrostatic with the belt running down the side

Got a serial number?  I suspect JDparts would give you a diagram that would at least get you started with it.  I have tried searching but cannot come up with anything.  Service manual is what you need.

When installing the drive belt make sure it turns the transmission fan to blow cooling air over the hydrostatic pump.
