Exactly. Many times, it takes a good cross referencing between the service seminar books, the parts manuals and service bulletins to make an educated guess on some of these. I have memorized many specific details that help pinpoint models just at a glance, but that doesn't always work. I once also had access to many of the engineering department notes, inter office memorandums, design drawings and blueprints, but sadly I was not able to save those files.

I been crossing referencing so much stuff the last number of years my head spins at times. lol    Man what I would do to get my hands on that info!  Maybe there another group of that paper work we can save down the road if you cant find a way somehow to save that stuff you had your hands on.

No, the 2389-01 was produced in 1979 & 1980. The 2389-02 ran from 1981-1983.
To my knowledge, all HT23 tractors built from 1984 - 1987 carry the "2389S" model designation. The 2389S-01 in 1984, 2389S-02 in 1985, 2389S-03 in 1986 and finally 2389S-04 in 1987.
I truly wish that Bolens would have simplified their model & serial number process. It gets confusing at times due to the use of "like" model numbers, with only the first 2 digits of the serial to identify the production run. Such as the 2389-02 was made for 3 years. It leaves many questions at times as to exactly what year the tractor was built, with us only having to guess depending on how high or low the serial number is. The HT's aren't too bad to figure out though. Where it get really bad is the ST series.

Thanks Todd,I thought they started production in the late 70's
