When I removed thr transaxle pully it had 3 shims between the in and out sides of the pully and 3 shims outside the outer side, are the 3 extra shims for a new belt to widen the spacing or? And this is a vari-drive.

Yes, as the belt wears, you remove shims. When you put in a new belt, you put in some shims. I think you leave one out tho, as both the ones I've played with had OEM paint on one, like it was on the outside from the factory.
