I miss the walnut trees in Iowa . My grandfather's farm was between Pleasantville and Carlisle . Walnut trees all around the houses and barns and nothing but walnut and elms in the forest . My grandfather built a machine to take the husks off . We would get fresh ones every year . Thank you for the update .

I've thought about collecting them before, but that's as far as I got!

Missouri Conservationist had a good article about walnuts a couple of years ago.

finished picking up walnuts this year.

it has not been a good year for walnuts here.

only got just under 4000 lbs this year.

had one guy cut down 10 walnut trees and another cut two trees this year,  and the city cut down two walnut trees that were hit by lighting

the buyer says that next year looks like it will be his last year to buy walnuts

then they will go the the dump to get them out off my yard

oh I did get 16 cents a lbs this year

been helping the buying with the walnuts.

on the Fri. Oct.18 he bought over 9300 lbs. of walnut  and Saturday the buyer called and said that he was not able to work.

on Fri the 25 and Sat. the 26 we did over 16000 lbs .  That in the bag.  each bag weights around 45 lbs/

I worked my butt off.  Cleaning the machine tying the bags and weighting them and put them on pallets.

He ran the machine and moved the pallets and emptied the wagon.

Wed. the 30 he called to see if I would help load a semi trailer.

We loaded 42000 lbs of bagged walnuts.

He said he will over 40000 lbs that will ship later after he is done buying walnuts.

Today we did around 500 lbs. stopped because of the rain.  Tomorrow he said he the last day that he is buying walnuts for this year.
