I started having problems with my back and leg (sciatica) last summer and it is messing with my ability to punch a time clock. Have decided to try making a few bucks with my GT hobby. Have posted ads seeking to rescue old fixer-upper garden tractors from barns and fields to tinker with and resell. Bought two Massey Ferguson collections. Rough looking stuff, but plenty of use left. Hoping you folks will help me determine fair asking prices. This is near Sault Ste Marie, MI.

Collection A is an ugly MF 14 that runs, and another for parts, along with attachments and books. Tractor starts, drives, and stops. PO warned me to keep one hand on the drive lever so it doesn't take off, hit a tree, and dent the hood again. The parts tractor was his baby. The engine had about 80 hours on a fulll rebuild when it started knocking. Engine is out, head and valve covers off. It appears that the wrist pin is loose. Might be easy fix. A person could make one nice tractor with the  parts and sheet metal from both. At this point I am tempted to keep the hydro and transaxle from the parts unit. Rest of machine would go with sale. Included attachments are 2 mule drives, 2 MF 510 decks, a 520 snow blower, and a 550 tiller with dual extensions. All seem to be in good usable condition.

 

I don't want to be greedy and sit on these for a year. Would like to make a few bucks and get them into the right hands. What should I ask for this collection? Thanks in advance. Paul

   that's a tough one there, I wouldn't mind having that here I do like the look of those massey tractors unfortunately I have to much crap now and really don't need another project.  I would say the tractor if it runs and drives is worth $200 at least depending on the tires and maint it will need, the attachments if they are in good shape and fit the tractor should be worth at least another $150 each, the decks maybe only $100.  this is only a guess

   Another gt talker here with more knowledge of massey will be along soon enough.

With all the angles and offsets I could spend half a day plotting this out. Can give you approximate sizes and another image. Overall length is 56". Left hangers are 11.5 inches in from end and 16 3/8" apart. Pan is 12" wide at that point. Depth of hang is about 3.5". Right brackets are 9" in from other end and 11" apart. Hang is about 6.5". Distance between the two sets of hangers is about 35.5". All measurements are to the cent of a bolt hole when possible. Belt guides are 3/4" wide. Hope that helps. Paul

I'm thinking a good running 14 needing cosmetic work is probably $500-$750 with a good deck and no other attachments. A tiller could probably go for $300+ to someone who's looking for one. It may help that you being in a Northern state near Canada. I hear the MF's are pretty pricey up there.

I have a question for you however:  I have the tiller attachment for the 14/16 like you do in the pictures.  Did you get the drive belt for the tiller that runs from the front clutch/pulley, through the mule, within the belly shield, to the tiller?  I'm having a devil of a time getting a belt(not available from Massey!).  If you have one what is/are the numbers on the belt so I could get a cross-over at least.

The MF V belt # is 1-043-214-M1. Shouldn't be too hard to cross reference. Good luck. Paul

Hello Ed,

I purchased an MF16 with the rear tiller that was missing the belt. My AGCO dealer sold me an A175 belt and it does the job as a replacement.

I just bought a MF14 with deck, fully complete and original, no 3 pt hitch, no attachments.  I paid $500 for it and am about to pick up a MF520 Snow Thrower for $125 which is missing some parts (which I see that you have haha)...I haven't been able to find a tiller near me and no 3 pt hitch.  Like others have said, I would think your collection is in the $1000 range with the attachments you have.

I got lucky and sold both collections (MF 14 and MF 1200) to one of our fellow members.
