I would suspect you've got bad bearings in it.
It should have a bearing or bushing on each end of the armature shaft.
Perhaps it even has small flip top ports for adding oil at those points.
Some times they get filled with water and rust inside.
They can be rebuilt.

Any idea why my starter generator is smoking real bad and then stops spinning? The engine then Boggs down and dies.

If I remember correctly there should only be two wires connected to the starter/generator.  ...Where is the 3rd wire connected to?

The wiring is correct as far as I can tell from the wiring diagram I have. The starter gen does have bearings on either end of the armature. I am betting that the tapped out holes on the starter gen should be filled with a set screw or something? It came with four or so holes like the one in the picture I will post. I do see areas where there is a screw for adding lubricant if that is what those are fore. What type of lubricant do they use in these? This unit I bought new so hopefully it's not ruined by my inexperience, if so oh well lesson learned. It still runs well until it heats up and then stops spinning and the engine dies.
