This is a story I believe GTtalk readers will enjoy as much as I did preparing it. It is a story about a little red garden tractor that was rescued from a life of abuse. It had been stored in a chicken coop for several years. If you know anything about chicken coops, you know that chicken manure is very damaging to paint and metal. It is like an acid that eats right into the surface of metal.

I was at the Fawn Grove Olde Tyme Days Fall Show 2010 walking around taking pictures of all the different tractors that made their appearance just like I always do. Some know that I have grown quite fond of the IH Cub Cadet garden tractors over the last year. As I was walking around taking pictures, this group of Cub Cadet garden tractors caught my eye.

My story goes back to the spring of 2005. I was visiting with good friend Gene Preston and our conversation led the subject of Simplicity and Allis-Chalmers garden tractors that he remembered being used in the area. Gene being a long time resident and third generation to farm here in Greece, New York, was familiar with most of the lawn and garden equipment that was used to maintain properties here in this northwest suburb of Rochester, N.Y.

I picked up this 1966 Massey Ferguson MF10 garden tractor last winter from a friend, at the time I was looking for a parts tractor and he had a complete one plus another in pieces. When I picked it up noticed some different features mainly narrow wheels, tires and aluminum dash. Serial # 1446 005183 dates this to be a 1966 which is the first year of production. ...

Back in April I was offered a chance to have a Panzer GT given to me if I were to restore one for a friend of my fathers. Trust me when I say nothing in life is free, I am a living testament to that. In the process of getting the friends and mine home, Dad suggested (strongly at 75 years of age ) while you're doing his do mine. So now 2 became 3. Then Dad says "and by the way son, the friend needs his before the first Monday of August for a county fair and tractor show".

Here are a couple of pictures of our " his and hers" panzers. I found the first one, a 1965 T-75 and rebuilt it. It is the one with the white steering wheel. My wife said she liked the way it looked and she wanted one to! Never passing up on a reason to buy another tractor I looked for quite a while to find a second Panzer tractor near Wisconsin. ...

Here are the pictures of the Restoration Process from start to finish. I did this resto this fall.
I took a little field trip to Alabany to pick this 800 and an 850 up. It was a nice ride and I enjoyed it. I got the 2 tractors (non running) with a deck for $250. The 800 was in sad shape, non original engine, needed new clutch discs, the throttle cables were destroyed. I had to pay $120 for a new set of NOS ones LOL.
