I have learned how to test a starter generator with it still hooked to the engine to make sure it is charging and I am passing this knowledge along to those that feel capable. The engine should be bolted down during this test, usually on the tractor you are working on or if it is a stand alone unit, a good sized board. I performed this very test on my 1977 Case 444 with 14 HP Kohler K321 engine within the last 12 hours and can verify this procedure to work.

Back in 2003 I bought a plating kit from Caswell Inc. Plating. It is a bright nickel finish called "Copy Chrome". True chrome plating is very expensive & dangerous due to deadly chemicals, but the "Copy Chrome" is very safe. I'm sure you can't drink the plating solution, but just touching it, or even dipping your hands into it will not make you sick or even have any sort of ill effect.

After reading a lot about electrolysis rust removal, I decided to give it a try. Sandblasting can be messy, plus requires more air than most of us have available, so when blasting we spend much more time waiting for the compressor to catch up than actual sand blasting time.

As most of you know it isn't always easy to come across a three turn steering gear for a Cub Cadet garden tractor. However, it is fairly easy to find a steering unit for a 110, 112, 212, 214, etc. John Deere garden tractor. And luckily most of their steering columns are longer, so that gives us a place to start. ...

Restoring old tractors (garden type or full-size farming equipment) presents the restorer with many challenges. Not so different from automotive or aircraft restorations, certain little tricks-of-the-trade are learned along the way which every restorer should have in their basket of tricks. The older a restoration subject is, the harder at times it is to locate a suitable "show-quality" part to complete the restoration. Sometimes you simply don't have a choice but to restore the part you have in hand because a replacement just simply does not exist.

Proper way of setting up a one bottom plow

A plow should be run no deeper than about 1/2 it's plowing width, so a 10" plow should run no deeper than 5". The best way to set one up is to first determine the depth you'll be plowing. If 5", then run your left tires up on 5" blocks to mimic plowing position. Then adjust the side to side tilt till the plowshare is level to the ground. Then adjust 3rd arm until the rear of the land slide is level to 1/4" from the ground. If plow has an adjustable pitch built in, then use this instead of 3rd arm to adjust.
