GTtalk's Featured Tractor of the Month of October 2011!
Oct 01, 2011 06:49 PM | skyrydr2 in Featured Tractors
Congrats to Keith(skyrydr2) for winning GTtalk's Featured Tractor of the Month for October 2011! For those that don't know our featured tractors will be published in the LAGT Magazine. LAGT is going to be featuring two tractors in each issue since the magazine is bi-monthly, one per page. Keith will be our third member/tractor to be published in the magazine.Here is Keith's submission:
Well here goes, I would like to see my 1982 Ford LGT 165 be nominated for tractor of the month.
I acquired this tractor back in August, 2009 and new it had potential. It was a basket case to say the least. Well I figured I would at least see if everything worked before I parted it out, but needed to get an engine in it first.
Well I just happened to have an 18hp Briggs twin I could try it with. Got the engine grafted in and took it for a ride, the transmission worked perfectly as did the deck lift too. Well now I was very happy and wanted to try the deck out but had to figure out how to get the pto to work? One 1" to 1 1/8" bushing and a few Shims and it was working, next issue, mule drive didn't line up? This was an easy fix by re drilling 2 new holes for the cross pin , got a 2" longer belt and I was in business and it has not stopped mowing since .
This tractor has evolved ever since to be and do just what I want it to do, it plows and grades, tills and bottom plows, snowblows, and tows. It is my main machine for sure. It has Hydraulics front and rear, 3 point hitch, multi speed pto and best of all powersteering and a 3 cylinder diesel powering it. This is the pride of my fleet for sure ,I just love this rig and so does my daughter too .
Congrats on winning October's featured tractor of the month Keith

wow TOO COOL:wave::madhop::wave::confuse::confuse::confuse:
Thanks guys , it is such a joy to operate that tractor . It mows very nice and with the powersteering, ohh man, I love it!
I have a picture of it when I first got it and had just grafted in a Briggs twin anyone like to see it?

That is what my beautiful diesel was ! Not much to look at then. And all the wheel weights, those were for the plow that came with it, I tried it out (factory for unit) and realized it was useless and made a different setup for it, hence the quick hitch on the front. Anyways glad everyone's enjoying it, I know I am .:bounce:

Thanks everyone for the kind words, and it has been a real fun project, and it seems to get better as time wears on. I have an older model that is about to get a similar treatment. But no diesel for this one, I want to keep it as close to original as possible. Thanks again, everyone I have enjoyed the limelight :worshippy2:
Wow! from rags to riches, really nice:D
That tractor is wicked nice! Saw some of your pics along the way. Great job!
Hard to believe that the tractor you started with is the tractor you are now using. You did a beautiful job! Congratulations
