New member here just starting a J-D 318 re-juv NOT a restoration. It now has a B motor that runs fine, little cold knock, NO smoke ever.I want to re-power with a P motor. I have a 218 long block with all sheet metal. Also a P216G complete motor out of a -----CAN I SAY THIS ON HERE??--toro. Only looking for donor parts from the 216. I know I will have several questions about this project.
I in return will help with Mercury V-6 2.0-3.2 Outboard questions as I am a Mercury V-6 outboard re-builder.Over 30 year's in the business,Four Outboard Drag racing championships 10-11 second class's.

Sounds like an interesting re-juv, looking forward to the progress.

And yes, you can say TORO...
But if you use that engine, you have yo repaint the tractor to match. :poke:

Welcome to the JD forum of GTTalk POPS. I think there are many people who would appreciate photos of your rebuild on the 318. They are great tractors and well worth the effort.

I think POPS should put that Mercury motor in his 318 ! I'd love to build a pulling tractor one of these days... lots of events during the summer here.

A friend put a Mercury V-6 175 (122 ci.) in a Midget many years ago. WON every thing around here. They out lawed it the next year!!!. He ran it on alkahol (spelling) to keep it cool.. Now on to J-D . Took the mower deck and discharge to the local powder coater. Should be done late this week.Sand blasted ,primed and painted everything else. New bearing's,Gator's and belt's. When the deck is complete I will get started on the tractor. I wonder if paint or powder coat on the tin would be best????The hood has to be painted but the rest could be powder coated---What's a fella to do???
