I am looking at a 1254-02. It has no spark. The owner has replaced ignition system with a Kirks? system from Sams, said it worked for a while then quit.

What is the worst case with this TRA12D and is there a fix.

What can anybody tell me about the tractor and what are the differnece between the 1254 and the G10?

Just off the top of my head:

1. 2 extra horses

2. 1254 has a controlled rear end...G10 doesn't.

3. 1254 has high/low transmission...G10 has a 3 speed and requires you to shut down engine and physically move belts for high/low.

Those would be the major differences. Especially the controlled rear end if you are thinking of plowing snow, etc.

If you put a G10 and a 1254 side by side, in identical condition, I'd pick the 1254. That's coming from someone that has a G10.

The G10 is a fine tractor, but when compared to most of the other Bolens, it does have some shortcomings.

I would think worst case, you might need to buy another ignition system from Sam, or directly from Dale at Overnight Solutions. If it were me, I would contact Sam first about a system that failed shortly after it was installed (and worked as advertised) to see if there was something he could help you with.

I have the little brother to that, the 1054 and a G10. Like stated above the 1254 there is a little more user friendly than the G10. Plus, if I'm not mistaken, most of the 10s had the Techeumseh with just one year having the Briggs. I'm not a fan of the Techumsehs at all and so far my Wisconsin in my 1054 has been a good engine. The one you post pics of looks to be in good condition and should be worth buying. I wouldn't want to pay much more than 150-200 max.
