Hello JD guys,

Is there a testing procedure for my electrical system on my 69 JD 140 with solid state wiring system?
I'm having real trouble over here. She'll turn over with the key. But no spark.
I have a test light and a multimeter. Don't know how to use either. If there is someone that could guide me. I'd be very appreciative.

Sincerely,
jdingersoll

It sounds like you need a service manual.

FWIW - my initial thought was bad ignition switch and the correct one is determined by the serial number of the tractor. Hapco sells for tractors serials up to 10000. If I read your post correctly JDParts gives this info for your tractor:

AM102544 SWITCH 1 10001 - 22400 IGNITION (5-PRONG, SOLID-STATE TRACTORS)

It's a K321. Is there a testing procedure for the entire electrical? I dont want to spend money guessing.

All I have a manual for is the old Point/Coil system.
Perhaps some one has the newer manual and can help you out.

Those Kohler ignitions are far & few between & I hear almost impossible to troubleshoot. I used to have a Wheel Horse GT14 that had the solid state ignition. Luckily it never gave any problems. The Kohler site's download for the 321 has this solid state ignition in their service manual.

If you have a copy of the K321 service manual it has a pretty detailed description of the kohler SS ignition and some tests you can do on it. I'm not sure if JD used the stock Kohler part but it would be a good starting point.
