Gotta say that I am embarrassed by John Deere legal. This is a site for hobbyist of all brands and THIS JD enthusiast is not happy. I understand copyrights and if some troll contacted JD legal they had to respond BUT, the people using the manuals are CUSTOMERS! Does not take a high IQ to figure that out. What kind of business model is that?? I am sure every body has seen the signs in front of businesses so I want to put it up here for John Deere legal

One thing I like about this site when I first join was the no brand bashing. I'm seeing way too much of it here in this thread. Just because a company protects it's copyright material, doesn't mean there should be brand bashing. It IS against the law, btw, to reproduce any copyright material without permission, so John Deere is well within it's rights to ask anyone not to reproduce them.

TMO.... I don't intend at all to bash John Deere tractors. I have green equipment myself. It's the legal side that bothers us, even though I do understand their protectionism. Meangreen loves no tractor more than John Deere & will never change, and as he said in his last edit line....we just need to move on.
I know I'll not let go of my JD F935 "Mega Mower" as we call it!

This is just wrong in my mind, and one more reason to stay far away from JD.

If they are so concerned about Pirate's profiting from selling old manuals for equipment they don't even produce anymore then I think they should look to their legal department and ask why are you wasting time on this when we have so many more urgent issues ? I.e. the hidden zerk fittings on some models (causing a built in failure point) or the fact that they chose to reduce the cost of some entry level LT's (L-LA line) by not adding a 5 cent drain plug in effect making them a sealed unit !

In my opinion this does more to harm their company and reputation than the manual library here ever could, but since I don't own any JD products I should keep my common sense opinions to myself.

As to who or what group made the call to JD, I have my suspicions but will be mute on it as I wouldn't want to infringe on their copy-rites, but you can be assured that what goes around comes around !

I guess it kind of like the Napster fiasco from a few years ago.......Thyey wanted you to pay for their music....and we all could see their point, but kept stealing it anyways........Thing is, now that most downloads are paid for (99 cents to a few bucks), they are letting the older music go for free.........you can download that for nothing......Maybe, the JD manuals will end up the same in a few years?

TMO, if my posts came across as brand bashing, I apoligize. They were not meant to bash JD's tractors.
Only their corporate lunacy. I fully understand the reasons that they would act like this, but really???
Surely they've got something better to do than pick on a few hundred guys, working on their tractors.

I know I am prewtty new to this group, but it seem like any other web community where we all share common interests and help each other solve problems.
So if we can' have a so called JD library, What is to stop me from contacting a neighbour on the web and asking if he has a repair manual that I could use to fix my tractor.. And if he does, what is to say he cant e-mail me a copy of it.
The laws may be different in some countries, but e-mails between friends and neighbours are sacrosant unless the matter is criminal.
Having said that, I have some old Wheelhorse Charger V7 material if anyone needs to borrow it.
Chappy.

After the initial shock, I've had time to calm about this whole issue. John Deere were within their rights, so we should accept it & go on. We can still help each other and share info, so they cannot shut us down from helping others. Please everyone, lets all drop the anger & go about our daily business. I have enough to deal with, without allowing this to get me upset. You guys likely do too.
