Bill, I have tried everything to get to the root administrator and I'll just wait till the restore discs get here Friday. Then do a complete restore to factory settings and start updating/setting up how I want it. I have removed programs as an admin. and they are still running in the task manager. I don't understand what is going on.

The laptop has been restored. I am on it now. Need to play with it some and figure out how to connect to my wireless network. It is pretty quick right now. That may change some when I finish loading everything.

That sound good Kenny.
You did re-frame from installing any of the BLOAT ware.
That will give you a clean and quick little box.
We can remove anything you do not need.
Let me Know if I can help.
I can do it Remote.

I tried to keep the installation simple, did not install all the software I could have. I'm still downloading updates. First batch was 103(Microsoft). Once all those are done, I'll do a system restore point and make a new Restore Disc with all that on it. Then set up the wireless and get it to on the network so I can move some files over (.pdf's, photos & dwg's). DeltaCad 7 and Sketchup will be on it also.
Then I will try Unbunto. It has a 55 GB hard drive, so I will have to figure out how much to allow for it.

The current release of Ubuntu will work fine on a 10-15 Gig partition. Grab the 32bit version for your machine.

Or you could install it on a USB drive (thumb or external HD) and boot to it using the machine bios options. I have a couple 2, 4, and 8 gig thumb drives that work great for this. Doing it this way eliminates the potential for trashing your drive after all of the work you have done.

I'm on wireless now! Hooray! That was a hassle to do! I shut the computer down and it didn't want to connect. Had to play with it and stroke it just so-so to get it back.

Just for grins, I shut down and restarted. It stayed connected this time.

Glad you got it working. It really is nice to have the manual, drawing or what ever right there while you are working and it doesn't cost to print it out.

I still haven't gotten the computers to talk to each other. Don't know what the problem is. Network wizard does nothing I can see.

I assume this is what you are talking about sharing files. You need to have at least one folder shared, file & print sharing enabled on all computers involved and it helps to have the computers in the same work group.

Yep, got all that. Just that nothing shows from the other computer. I used the Network Setup Wizard, made the disc, put it in the other computer. All it wanted to do there was make a disc to put in the first computer. Must have something to do with going thru the router.

Finally figured it out. My PC didn't have a Server Service turned on. Why it didn't tell me that, I'll never know.

Kenny
I have been watching this thread and Bill always had the answer. You do not seem to be too computer illiterate either.
Bill will and is be a a great addition to this site.
We are about GTs but we also need to help with the tech side as well to make it work for everbody.
Thx again Bill for all your tech support.

I have to agree, ducky. He's been a big help for my issues and I appreciate everything he has done to help.
