so i know a person selling a massey 12 and its got variable speed drive or something to that affect. what exactly is that? like hydrostatic drive?

It has stick shift, but variable sheave pulley drive to give you adjustment of speed within each gear range. Like JD200 series & many others used.

Sears had that for a while, I have a GTV/16. V is for varidrive. When working good, they are comparable to hydro for speed.

sounds like it'll be the new fourwheeler tractor. ironically its right near where i bought my ht20. lets hope for only 1 basket case from the same place.

Funny you should have this on today.
I got home about 3 this afternoon with another MF, this one a 10 and it too has the vari speed.
I asked the guy I got it from what it was all about, and he said just like olcowhand. 4 gears on the shifter and 5 variable speeds per gear.
Up here it is similar to a snowmobile clutch which moves in and out to change the diameter of the drive , but on these you control it manually from the lever. Great concept.
