Fuel Tanks
All MF10s came with short tank.
Early MF12s came with long tank.
All tractors with deluxe muffler came with short tank and some had different oil fill dipstick.
I think on the Mf12s when the deluxe muffler came out, the fuel tanks switched to the short one.

Thanks Doug, I knew they didn't all have it, but most of the ones I've seen have it. Of course, I've only seen one good muffler up close.

I checked AGCO parts books and

All 10s have short fuel tank.
10s from 66 to 71 came with round muffler.
10s not made from 72 to 74.
10s reappeared in 75 and all had Deluxe muffler with short tank.

All 12Hydra drive have large fuel tank and round muffler.
12G, Vari-Drive, 72 and 73 have large tank and round muffler.
All 1974 and up 12G, Vari-Drive, came with short fuel tank and Deluxe muffler.

Thanks for the research gentlemen. Another clue I missed was the PO had attempted to shoe-horn a Kohler 10HP engine in the tractor, so a short tank is the only thing that would fit--That might explain why its there. (its a '70)

That means more good news because the $%$#& cut the battery tray also and at least I'll have the original engine if I choose to use it.

That's some good info to know on the fuel tanks. Lee, just take it slow and easy with them. You'll get them fixed, just a matter of time.

Does he have a good steering wheel for a MF10?

I need one, it doesnt have to be from a MF10, just as long as it fits.

I think all the Ross columns use the same splines at the top. I know the bearings are the same.

Someone was watching Knight Rider just before they built that. Whew.

Funny thing is, I love mods like that as long as they aren't destructive (sorry it's welded on), it always interesting to me to see how people make do without. I can hear the conversation now...

"I would like to order a new steering wheel for my 442."
"Yes, sir, that'll be $_______"
"I can build my own for less than that!"

I recently owned a HD golf course Toro-groundsmaster- When the Kohler Twin finally blew, I trot fat and happy down to my Kohler Dealer to check on new price for one. 17HP-Special Order to Toro-$3600. My instant reply was , Hell I can drop in a Chevy V8 in it for that !!!! :bounce: :bounce:
