Recently the wife and I were watching one of those reality show where there 2 or 3 things going on and one of them was an exhibit of lawn tractor racing. At the time I just dismissed it as TV hype but my daughter and Son-in-law (he loves any kind of racing) were just down visiting from VA and were taking about the different classes of tractors and how neat it was.

I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about it?

Thanks, they sure didn't sound like the ordinary tractor I'm use to hearing.

I think this record has since been beaten, but still decent footage. you can jump to the 5:15 mark and not miss much.

The show in Fawn Grove,PA has garden tractor racing. Their track is a little small, but the racing can get intense. There are pics in the gallery that include some shots of the racing and the rest of the show from 2009. Fawn Grove, PA 2009 - Garden Tractor Talk Gallery
Brian's link to youtube has the best action. At this show when I talked to somebody about the races, I did learn that to be a true mower racer, it had to have a mower deck. Obviously for safety reasons it is only a shell beneath the tractor.

I knew about tractor pulls but they are usually big tractors that have been modified like the trucks. I never thought about lawn tractors racing and looking like miniature NASCAR. I'll have to keep my eyes out around here for any races. Thanks

I think it can be anything from very informal to all out full bor racing machines. I know a couple brothers, these ain't kids,I think Denny is 59. Who have an impromptu oval track in their backyard. And at least once a week you can find them in the backyard racing lawnmowers. I've also seen mowers that were all out racing machines, more gokart than mower.

There is a club of GT Racers here in the Black Hills area but I have not seen any races. A local small engine shop has a couple tractors they race- where I saw pics in a photo album. It was advertised that they raced at our county fair in August. The tractors look like what is running in the video that Bolens 1000 posted but here they run road courses. I have an old go kart track in my back yard that looks to be almost identical size as that video!

Fun thread!---DAC

There are 3 places(that I know of) within 45 minutes that have lawn tractor races. A friend of mine is into demolition derbies. He said they have lawn tractor demo derbies at one of the shows he goes to in Ohio.

Uh, about that. I may have given him one of my 129's to run next year. He added bumpers front and rear, side protection, and a ridiculously large stack. Here's a short cell phone video of him trying it out on one of his demo cars.

The tractor was basically for parts. I gave it to him with the understanding that when he's done with it, it won't be scrapped. I'll get what's left back. It smokes like a fiend, is bent up and rusty(that way when I got it for free).

Right up to when he backed into his wife's King Ranch F-150 right at the end of the video.

If my wife's car was hit we both would be in the dog house for quite a while! :mad2:

If I tried to do something like that I wouldn't be able to get out of bed the next day! :bigrofl:
