On October 9th, Ryan was helping put wood down the steel chute at my parent's house. he misjudged a little, got his finger between the end of the steel chute and a block of Sycamore. Ouch.
My Mom said she could hear his "Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God," Right thru the wall as he took off his glove and saw all the "carnage" (his word, not mine LOL).
Ryan said his finger actually "Popped" when it split. (insert smiley with the willies here)
Doesn't look too bad in the pics, but it swelled up a lot & looked nasty in person.
These are the day he did it:

And here is this morning.

It's getting better, he may not actually lose the nail.

Ouch!! It's been some time since I've done that. Don't mind saying, I shuddered a little looking at it remembering the last time I did.

I'll agree with olcowhand, that nail is going bye bye. Should have drilled it right away.

I've been there. It's extremely painful to have a crushing injury to the fingers like that. My wife was helping me remove a big rock from the bottom of a hole in front of the house. It was too heavy for me to lift all the way out. When she saw the rock beginning to lower back into the hole she picked up about a 10lber and hurled it into the hole. It didn't go under the rock I had ahold of but instead crushed 2 of my fingers between them. It was the most pain I have ever experienced. It split open and I lost the nail on it. The second finger was torn up and I thought it was broken but it ended up being only badly bruised. The pain nearly made me sick to my stomach. Ryan has my sympathy and I hope it heals up fast.

oooooh we! been there done that and got the proverbial tee shirt:mad2: burning almost 12 full cord of wood a winter makes it hard for something like that to be missed. done that a few times and it aint anymore fun the next go round.
we just like you put the wood in the basement. and when you are chucking wood down a chute like there's no tomorrow 'cause you wanna get it done, things like that happen.
and the next one will hurt more that that one.:smile1:
that fingernail will be coming off.:blush2:

"Oh My God" isn't what I would have said! :blush2:

For me, it would have had more to do with the male offspring of a female dog, minimum!!! :mad2: :D:D:D

And a few more words besides that. That hurts all the way to Tulsa. And I'm sure it's going to throb.

My WORDS we can't say on here, Been there and it is Painfull.

I sure hope Ryan's healing starts soon.Somewhere I did read that cursing after an injury did lower the pain.I sure know that I have done my share of accidents, and most of them have been followed by some words that we can't use here. Just hope that Ryan knows we are feeling his pain. Keep us updated Alan.

Somehow, this is another one of those threads I seemed to have missed. I can say from experience ,that he will loose that nail. But it will grow back out in a few months.

And by the way,OUCH !!!!!
