I just picked up the engine today from the machine shop! Don't ask how much it cost :wallbanging: I also thought I would post some pictures of the old piston. What could have caused the REALLY heavy scoring above the rings?

The engine was punched out 10 over new exhaust valve guide and also new rod bearings etc. I hope it will be worth it :D I wouldn't have invested this kind of money but as you can see my machine is in pretty good shape :smile1:

I also forgot to ask.....I want to replace the points and condensor while I have it out. Where is a good place to buy them? How do you time this engine etc. when replacing them?

Right above the rings there are real deep scores at the top edge of the piston (I know the picture is blury)

Looks like some foreign object was in there. Maybe a screw from the carb?

As for points and condenser, give NAPA a try. I got a set for my 800 from them.

The part number for the points & condenser (ignition kit) for the S-12D was Wisconsin # YQ-16.

For the S-8D, TR-1oD, & TRA-10D engines, the ignition kit was Wisconsin part # YQ-12. .....Points were Wico #X14508, Condenser was Wico #X14590.

For the S-7D engine, the ignition kit was Wisconsin part # YQ-11. .....Points were Wico #X14031, Condenser was Wico #X12984.

The heavy scoring around the top of the piston is not abnormal. ....I have seen that at numerous small-engines with lots of hours. .....I believe it may be caused by overheating, corrosion from the exhaust gases, and scoring caused by chunks of hard carbon.

I don't remember. I do know that I had to go back a 2nd time as they gave me the wrong points the first time.

I went back to those posts, and i didn't post the NAPA PN.

Maybe if you get a different guy at NAPA who's willing to take a closer look, he can find it. I know it took a lot more searching when I went back the 2nd time, but they DID come up with the right ones.
