I have a 16hp Kohler that I want to get running nice.
It came out of a JD300 that I got not running, fellow I bought it off of said it was a fresh rebuilt engine but hasn't been used for a while. Check to see if the motor turns and it did.
When I got it home first thing I did was pull the plug and put some oil in the cylinder, the carb is seized solid both throttle and choke.
The tractor sat around for a while and now it's time to do something about the motor.
I pulled the motor today and took it apart to see what it's like inside and found an engine that has been rebuilt with .010 oversize piston, standard size rod that when I plasti gauged it, show, .002 clearance. It looks like it's been sitting for a long time outside rusty, and inside it's a little rough looking, not shiny.
After I checked it decided to get one of this kits
>Master 16HP rebuild KIT FOR KOHLER K341, M16 W/Valves | eBay

When it arrives I'll see what I can do to make this a good running motor.

I did a fair amount of searching and found that these guys seem to be the cheapest with the best selection, but they don't ship to Canada.
>Small Engine Parts, Lawn Mower Parts, Marine Parts, ATV Parts, Dirt Bike Parts, Snowmobile Parts and More.

So the I found these guys have pretty good prices, selection and they ship to Canada.

Also this place as well.

There is also this place in Ont. Canada has a fair amount of parts as well.

I've bought at least 2 rebuild kits from bakt4kids Engines held up very well, and both are still running 4 years later.

"Bakt4kids"ebay store is "The One Mans Stop Shop" That's the same place I bought my kit from and hopefully it works out like yours did.

In the picture there is a hole in the valve or breather cover, what is suppose to go in there and where dose it go?
Is it just a hose vented or some thing else?

There is a rubber hose that connects this to your air filter housing. The older models just vented to the atmosphere, but they just had a punched outward slit.

Thanks, I just checked my MF14 and 16, just like you say they have punched outward slit.
The tractor this motor came out of did not have an air cleaner assembly on it, I got 2 other JD300, 316K tractors that have the same motor and have air cleaners on them, I'll check them tomorrow in the daylight.

Everybody more or less says remove the balance gears when rebuilding on of these engines.
Since I don't know much about Kohlers I guess it's the smart thing to do.
Anybody have any opinions or comments on this?

I take them out religiously. Seen too many "picture windows" punched through blocks when a gear comes off it's stub shaft & the crank throw sends it through the side.

I have 2 10 hp and 2 12 hp "K" series engines....I have had a look at 3 of them inside, none have the balance gears....Are they more common on the 14 & 16 hp engines?

Mine are all earlier engines...72-76

All the "Quietline" engines have them for sure. A "Q" behind the engine number denotes quietline. As in K341AQS...A=special oil pan, Q=Quietline, S=electric start.

Does a K341AQS fit a Massey MF1650?
