Hello, I just aquired 2 MF 14's and a MF 16. All three are in fairly rough shape (hope to attach pictures soon). When I look at the tractors I really don't see a difference beween the two. Besides the Engine, decals and serial number does anyone know of any other differences? Also the 16 has really skinny rear wheels. They look different then the norm but they look to be factory by the paint. Did MF offer different wheel options for these tractors?
I really appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks, Shane

You nailed the only differences. As far as I know, there were no wheel options.

I have 1 of each, 14, 16 and the differences I notice all seem to be engine related.

The 16 has a different muffler and grill, the 16's exhaust exits around the side of the grill, where the 14 exits through a hole in the side of the grill.
The 16 has rubber engine mounts where the 14 is solid, bolted to the frame.
These are the differences I have noticed, maybe more??? but I think there the same tractor just using different engines.
The owners manual says 2 rear tire sizes, standard 23x8.50/12. option 23x10.50/12.
14 weighs - 750 with mower
16 weighs - 800 with mower

Same body, frame. The engine is the obvious difference. And the extended foot rest was standard on the 1975/76 MF16. Optional for the MF14.
I think the 1976 MF14 had the rubber engine vibration dampeners. (agcopartsbooks.com could solve that ???)

All that aside, welcome to GTT.
We really like to see pictures. Please post them when you can.

I used to own a definitely 76 MF14 with the optional footrest extensions....the engine was solid mounted on it.

Yep, Dan, your right there. My mistake. I just went and looked at my 75, and my brothers 76. Both solid mounts.

Great thanks for the replies. I am going to take a closer look to see how the engines are mounted in these tractors. The tires on the 16 are 12-6. After looking at the rims again I realized they were red not silver so they are probably something someone added. But I kinda like the looks of them. I was also given a couple of decks and some extra parts. Here is a couple of picks.

Oh that's ok, as I was wrong about wheel options, and I didn't know of exhaust routing differences.

I thought that the fender extensions were standard on both the 14 and 16 in 75/76? Just the pre '75 14's didn't have them? I also was not aware the air cleaners were different, I will check agco parts books later.

I'm not sure but I think the foot board extensions were not on the early model 14s, maybe the first yr they made them, the later ones all seem to have them on???

As everybody says the main difference is the engine and what they bolted on it.

I have an Operators Manual for MF14 and MF16 garden tractors, dated 1/75, in there it says>

MF14 - Kohler K321S - Spec# 60150A
MF16 - Kohler K341S - Spec# 71120A

I've never seen a 75 or 76 14 without the extensions. I've never seen anything that suggested that they were an option either.

The air cleaners ARE different, according to AGCO parts books.
