My daughter 14yrs old, only child still in the nest has won a statewide essay contest. She did this essay several months ago. Student Services Director, who was my own PE teacher in grade school called us last week about it. I didn't want to post anything, just in case she might find it here on GTT. Well, we're leaving in an hour to go to the school for her presentation. They are presenting her with one of those HUGE 4' checks with the entire freshman class present. We have to get there ahead of time. Kaylin knows NOTHING about winning! Terry wanted us to keep it secret so it will be one HUGE surprise for her. This is so great! I didn't ask how the $'s she won, and I could have. I wanted to also have something as a surprise for myself. I figure no less than $500, but whatever it is, it's more than she had when she awoke this morning. The presentation part is what will stay with her all her life more than the money.
They are going to call her to Terry's office before we get there & keep her tied up with some phony excuse till time for the presentation.
I can't wait to see the look on her face! I am VERY proud of her!
That is awesome Daniel. Make sure after Kaylin knows, that all of us here at GTT wish her congratulations and that it is quite an achievement.
The whole event went super slick. He didn't pull Kaylin aside at all. He his us in the office while he ushered the entire freshman class (about 200) into the auditorium. After they got seated, he slid us in the back of the room. Kaylin never seen us. Then they started the short program by explanation of the whole essay contest, then read the winning essay. Kaylin said after a few sentences that she realized it was her's, then they called her name. Once up on stage, she saw us in the back. The instant it was done, she RAN to the back with us. My parents & Teresa's parents were there with us, plus my 2nd oldest daughter who is an RN. She was SO proud of herself, and rightfully so. We are all so proud of her. I had some moisture in the corners of my eyes building up.
The pic shows the amount she won. She is so excited she is beside herself. Gonna be a chatty night tonight! BTW George....right there taking the pics, she said to tell you she's earned a GTT shirt!:bigrofl: Really, she did! But don't worry, I'll be placing an order for her one soon. I may do that tonight. Not that I have extra money, but gonna give her $100 tonight as a bonus. She's done so good, and want to let her see what working hard earns. That'll leave $300 in my savings acct., so doing good in my world!
I am one proud Poppa! My 2nd oldest, Krissa is on the right.
Sounds like they had it all planned out perfectly for the presentation. That is awesome and well deserved and you should be proud. Tell her I will give her a shirt but she has to have you take her picture wearing the shirt and either sitting on your Massey 2055 or holding her 4' check
We don't have anymore medium blues but we have them in the other colors. I think the medium would shrink to fit if you dry it on high heat, just let me know what color.
She doesn't know yet about the money. Before we left the school, she said she may put it in savings for now, then decide. I know she'd love a better laptop, as she uses her old one a lot for school work, but she doesn't have to be in any hurry.
OH Man, it doesn't get ANY better than that, Congrats to her, and your whole family. It says volumes of the stock she came from. I remember my son being Valedictorion (hell I cant even spell it with my college edukation) of his college class, wow big stuff. Again congrats
Thanks everyone. My Dad gave her $150 more today to make it an even 1 Grand! She almost fell over. She's never even seen that much money, much less it be her own!
Ya a grand at 14yrs of age probably seems like a million $..but as we get older we seem to figure out what a $1000 really is...in this day and age it is a conciderate amount..Tell her she is richer than me..B,
