Picked up an old 600 a couple of weeks ago. Hated to see it go to the scrapper. I could used the back tires/wheels on another tractor. Then this last weekend I saved another Bolens from the scrapper, it is a 1250. Rough, but looks like it is all there. My wife thinks I'm crazy. Got the old Wisconsin on it to fire yesterday, ought to be a great project. Mostly I have been a Sears Suburban tractor type, but these old Bolens are kinda cool too.

Wow! A Case 444. Now thats a good find! I got the motor to fire on the 1250, but the deck is about wasted. The 600 will probably end up as a parts tractor. It is all there, but the motor is toast. and I could use the back tires/wheels on a cub cadet I have. The 149 runs great, but the back tires have a major dry rot issue.

I almost thought I had another motor for it, but it did not work out. I did learn that the back of the b&s motor on these old ones are all about the same. What I mean is I found a 7 hp. b&s gear reduction motor that was the same as the 6hp that is on the tractor. There are a couple of brackets that mount on the back. I know if I keep looking I will find another motor. But in the meantime I only have room for 4 tractors (my wife disagrees with that statement, she's sure there is only room for 1) and I have my eye on the 5th tractor. The suburban, the 149, and the bolens 1250 ain't goin nowhere. The 600 is the odd man out. I don't know. I'm still messin with the motor on it. It is still in one piece.

That 600 looks good enough to sell as is if you don't want to restore it.

Heck that 600 looks better than most of the tractors I've had over the years.

The motor had a busted off head bolt, tried to repair it, broke off easy-out in drilled out bolt, finally got that out, some damage to head, but not bad, tried rethreading , broke off tap way down in there, so I used jb weld to seal/smooth, but won't seal enough to give enough compression to fire without that corner bolt. (the one by the exhaust) The coil was bad too, found another coil, it does spark, but alas, too much blow-by to start. yea I know some things should be left to the professionals, but where is the fun in that? One good thing, the starter/generator spins the motor over great.

I think for now I am just going to keep a lookout for another old B&S motor. The 600 is a cool little tractor. Besides, I think the 149 might be trading spots with an old bolens 1456.........maybe
