I bought a Miller welder which has an Onan B48M engine. It came with the wrong ring gear that the previous owner tack welded to it so it could be driven by a different starter. He gave me the correct gear when I bought it and it is not symmetrical. One side has a chamfer along the inside diameter and one side's face has grooves in at an angle along each tooth. I'm guessing the side with the grooved teeth face the starter gear. The grooves may be there to help the starter gear engage?
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Yes, the angles go toward the starter.

Thanks, olcowhand. Great color for tractors, by the way, same as my 1951 Farmall M.
