Just wanted to wrap this thread up by saying thanks to all involved that helped me thru this rebuild. The Onan is running great so far, and all I have left to finish this up is install a new choke cable. For those interested in what I have invested in this rebuild, I'm listing the parts and price I paid. Thanks!

Thanks for taking the time to share these details and photos in this thread. It helped to quell my fear of this exact same procedure coming up in my very near future.

It's a pity the older 300 series was discontinued by John Deere. I guess they couldn't sell new tractors if the old would never die and owners would fight even their own worst fears to keep them alive.... by even doing the work ourselves.
