What is the difference between a MF12 and a MF1200?
Which is better and why?

BIG differences in parts used. The 1200 is basically an MF1650 chassis/sheet metal, but gear drive. Has a driveshaft from engine, but it goes to a 90 degree gearbox, then belt to transaxle. Kohler K301 12hp instead of Tecumseh HH120.
The 1200 also has manual lift, and sleeve hitch as the MF12. As to better, I suppose it's more to preferences. Both are great units, but I do favor Kohler engines myself.

I take it there both Horiz. crank. but the engines sit at 90deg. angle to each other.

There are a lot of Massey model numbers reused between different products. Kind of like the 610 mower deck, I think there is a 610 baler or something and 620 snow blower , there is also a 620 disc.

And the little lawn tractor MF85 verses the large farm size MF85.

No variable, just straight gears.
