There seems to be a lot of interest in the early 300 series machines. Perhaps it is because they are much cheaper than the 318's that most people are after.

That is why I considered one. Plus they are great candidates for a repower.

I bought mine because I wanted a hydrostat to replace my 74-112!

This leaves me with one gear drive, the L/60 "Custom" which began life as a 1969-60 lawn tractor. Along with my 317"Special" & 83-420. ~~ grnspot

OUCH! thanks for the photo..that looks painfull. I love the fact that used parts are plentiful. I think you can find about anything on e-bay.

The Repower with the 18HP vanguard is tempting but more than what I paid for the whole unit..Although I think I'd still be interested in doing it..lol

Thanks, I had been looking for a wheelhorse w/manual trans when I came accross this 314.. glad I wasent steered away from Deere from my bad experience with a new LA175 I had bought. Im very happy & impressed with what this machine can do. Didnt expect it to be nearly as tough as it it.

The LA175 is a lawn tractor and and was built to compete at a low price point. The x500 are pretty nice machines but not as tough as the older GT's IMO. If you get a chance to try one of the x700 series 4wd models take it. They are an awesome GT. Deere still makes great GT's, you just have to spend big $ to get one.

I had a chance to try out an x748 a friend had. Diesel , 4wd and AWS. I was totally impressed with it. He used it in a commercial mowing business. The AWS on those is quite amazing.
