Was that the one out of California for $1500?

It came from California, but was priced at less then half of $1500. Did I pay too much?

I lucked out with shipping. Initially, I was going to have it shipped thru Fastenal and then I thought, why not try "Yesterdays Tractors Hauling Schedule". Twenty minutes after posting the wanted ad, a man an hour from me calls to tell me he is heading to California the next day and was willing to pick it up for cash money.

When I got my 7E, I noticed the hood latches were of a new design and made to work.  Can someone please show a picture of the correct hood latches? Are they the same as an 8E?  The hood latches on a 8E are the same as on a Economy Jim Dandy.

Photos left to right, photo 1 & 2 on 7E, photo 3 economy, photos 4 & 5 8E

I have a MF 24S Deluxe riding lawn mower that - I'm learning from this post - apparently was part of the Executive Series....  I need to sell this little guy.  Can anyone give me some idea of what it's worth?  I saw an earlier post that suggested $500, but I assume that was for one that runs and is otherwise in good condition.  I won't try to wring top dollar out of mine because it's in rough shape, plus I'll be happy just to see it go to someone who's been looking for one of these (if they're collectible and rare), but I don't have a clue what it's worth!

Sorry for the tardy reply!

The serial number is 16005, which now has me somewhat perplexed.  I wanted to upload a picture of the tag showing the model and serial number to my gallery, but kept getting a server error, so I'll try to attach the pic of that tag directly to this post. I hope it'll be big enough to read the numbers.

I found a list of serial numbers somewhere on the Internet that implies that there were only 499 Deluxe 24S (with the regular steering wheel) units made, occupying serial numbers 32501 to 33000.  According to that same list, there were about 6000 regular 24Ss made (with the tiller steerer), with serial numbers 10000 to 16001.

This unit, with a steering wheel has a tag that says the model number is (plain ol') 24S, and it has a serial number that is in neither published range.  So, I don't know if this was a regular 24S that had its tiller steerer replaced with a regular steering wheel, or if it's truly a 24S Deluxe.  Would the Deluxes had a different model number on the tag, such as 24S-DLX or something similar?  In any event, either that list of serial numbers is wrong, or this one has an erroneous number stamped on its tag, or some other explanation is needed.  Any thoughts?

These 24Ss seem like such a colossally bad idea (undersized and underpowered), I doubt many were "treasured" back in the day.  Surely most of them ended up in the junk pile or were cannibalized to make a go cart or some other project.  I wonder how many actually survived to today...?

BTW - I'm in Boise, ID.

Thanks!

I just picked my first MF8E. It’s pretty rough. It has a k181, but does not have the checkered plate foot pedals. I was able to get the tractor, snow blower, mowing deck, and plow as a package.Anyone know if there is a service Manuel for the the executives series?

I know for sure that the tractor is missing the right side drive pulley cover and the left side engine belt cover. Anyone have either of those on a parts machine they might be willing to part ways with?

I’ll post a few pictures sometime this week.

  Welcome to the forum! I found an Owner's Manual in the manuals section. May be more in the Implements section.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I THINK the checkered or diamond plate pedals were 1965 only. Nice MF8E!

If you start a new thread , you will get more people to notice. Manuals should be in the manual section , top of the page . Nice shape and good luck.

My son saved this from the local scrapyard. She’s cleaning up nicely. I’ve got a thread running over on RedSquare of our cleanup. Every part of the tractor is present except for the original rear tires, rims and hubcaps. The engine runs very well and will be reinstalled this weekend. The 42” mower deck is all there but very rusted on the top. We’ll dig into that next.
