Is a Hinomoto C144 the same as a Massey 1010?

Yes, they are the same aside from sheet metal.

I thought JD was the only major who had their compacts made offshore. It's interesting to see that MF did as well. The Japanese make really good small tractors probably because of their smaller sized farms. To this day JD has a deal with Yanmar to build JD designed tractors in Japan. My 2008 2320 was made by Yanmar.

I heard rumors JD had severed with Yanmar after Yanmar engines came out in Cub Cadet SCUT tractors. Any truth to that at all?

I remember when that rumour was circulating over at MTF. I ran into the JD factory rep. at the dealer and asked him that very question. There was no truth to it. The diesel engines in most of the tractors up to about 50hp are Yanmars and the 2320's are still made there. I don't know if Yanmar builds the 2305 replacement 1023/1026 tractors but the engines and transmissions are still Japanese. I haven't heard a lot of buzz about the CC compacts. They should be a good tractor.
