IF everything works out, this weekend I will have a new roof for my work area. I am getting (hopefully) a 12X20 car port for $100. I will have to remove the 8X20 lean-to I have now. But this will give me a lot more room to work on things. It only has 4 posts, I plan to add 2 more at the middle. That will let me put a cross beam to attach the winch to for lifting heavier things. If I get it, I will post some pics of it before I take it apart. I plan to number everything so it will be easier to put back together. The posts that are on it will be moved closer to the ends. Should give more room to put tractors under. Wish me luck!

Thanks. I should know for sure this evening. If so, I'll take it apart Sat. and haul home. Be next month before I can start to get it in place.

I drew up a sketch to show what it will look like with the center posts.

CarPort.jpg

Center posts uprights will be 4X4, cross beam will be 4X6. I don't plan to lift much weight from this, maybe front or rear of tractor to work under with supports under tractor. Not going to rely on winch to hold up.

That's good news Kenny. I was just talking to my wife about adding a section on to the back of the garage. Our 2 car garage has turned into a 3 tractor and piles of stuff garage!! I would consider getting a metal beam for across the centre. This would allow you to use a beam hoist and move it across the span. You can maybe find one used since it is only a 12 foot span.

I hope it works out Kenny. It looks very useful. I like the idea of a center lift as well. Good luck.

I already have my 12 volt winch attached to a rolling frame. Just need to attach it to the beam cross ways so it will move from side to side. Thanks for the suggestion.

I paid for it today, will take it down in the morning if it's not raining. I plan to mark each piece so it will be easier to put back up. And there will be some pics. Stay tuned!
