Many, many moons ago, I owned a 1946 Cessna 140. Cessna specified 40wt oil for it. It had a 90HP Continental 4 cyl air cooled engine.

I'd think that 40wt would not be out of line for our older air cooled engines. I'd certainly go no lower than 30wt.

well i hate to say it but im gonna rebuild. ONLY because a person called me about my gravely 450 commercial and he mentioned he had 12 horse kohler pistons with the same bore. o and he has rings and we are gonna work out a trade. NOS kohler parts!!! then ill get a gasket kit. and run 30wt in it.
