Location has a lot to do with it. If you are near NW PA, for instance... You could double your money pretty easy :D

Sounds like a good deal, please post some pics when you can, it will help on determining value as well as entertain.

Thanks for joining.

I had one a couple years ago that ran well and had good tires. I painted all the silver sheet metal with some spray cans. Looked good from the road and ok up close. I sold it with a deck and snow thrower for $350. Central Wisconsin

Over the pulleys! Just kidding. It's easier to figure out than it would be for me to try to explain without a diagram. Just pay attention to the pulleys, Flat pulley-back of the belt rides on it, grooved pulley-the "V" side of the belt. I don't have a manual that shows the deck belt, but here's the owners manual for the tractor---> 917.257030 1978 GT 14 Varidrive - Manuals - Garden Tractor Talk - Forums

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

They've had electric actuators for years, I believe the originals bolted onto the hitch like the newer versions do, but I'm not sure if they are interchangeable. Some guys have gotten creative and mounted them under the seat with the actuator coming out the cutout in the upper LH corner of the hitch plate. It sounds like a tight squeeze, but it's much cleaner that way.

Did you make sure a pulley bearing/spindle isn't bad?

A couple of things come to mind, like Kenny said, look for bad bearings. It could be in the deck or any of the idlers they use to get the belt in the right direction. The other thing could be rust in the v groove. Check each pulley, I've had them "sing" if they have rust on them. This is all assuming the routing is right and the belt isn't rubbing against something solid.

Could have a tab that holds the belt on the pulley in the wrong position, causing a rubbing condition, also. I would look over the routing again, don't start it, but engage the deck to see if something is rubbing somewhere.

Makes a heck of a noise when that happens, doesn't it?

Glad you got it figured out!
