i found 2 N.O.S bolens gang reel mowers. i beleave they are the ones that they use to mount 2 on the front or the tractor and one on the back. they have a gold top and say bolens in black. could be for the early 600s and so on. they are on north jersey craigslist. im very interested in them but could use some help on them. any info would be great. thanks, sam

Sam, I think they were used with some of the Ride-A-Matics.

I'll look around in my manuals.

These mowers have a hitch bar on the front of them.
That would make them a tow behind style of mower not a front mount.

Yes, according to the manuals, they would have been known as Type 22436-01 (2 Gang) if they were used with a front-mounted, belt-driven reel mower (#16402). .......The necessary hitch pieces for the 2 mowers were part of the 22436-01 attachment.

If there was no front-mounted reel mower, the Type 22437-01 (3 Gang) Attachment was used. .....The 3rd reel was towed behind the tractor. ......The 3 mowers and the necessary hitch pieces were part of the 22437-01 attachment.

The reel mowers on Craigslist looked like they were made by Pennsylvania. ......Looking at the manual, it appears they were. ......Earlier Bolens gang mowers were made by a different company and had stamped-steel side frames, while the Pennsylvania mowers had cast-iron side frames. ......Also, the Pennsylvania mowers usually had "Pennsylvania" cast into the wheels, and were good quality mowers.

These Pennsylvania reel mowers were also sold (without the Bolens name) for use as a 3-gang towed-attachment for use behind many brands of tractors. ......There were 21" reel units and (later) 30" reel units. .....The 30" mowers had wheels & tires approximately 3" wide.

That makes a neat little rig with the 3 reel mowers on it.
I've seen the Ride-a-matic tractors with the single reel out front but I've never seen one with the 2 outrigger reels.
I was wondering how they were going to work on the tractor.
Thank you for posting the photo.

I don't have a Ride-a-matic, but I could go for a set of those.
