Found this on Craig's list about 20 minutes from the house, listed as 3 point tiller.
PO didn't know what it fit, just that he got it with a bunch of Gravely stuff that was in a barn and he didn't need it. I paid him what he was asking ($150.00) then he said " I have 3 more people coming to look at it." We loaded it on my trailer and I past one of the other people going out the drive. That was 10 days ago. Just now posting because we left the next morning for vacation. Hope to get some time tomorrow to see if it will fit my homemade lift arms.

Looks like a good score to me! Seems to be all there. A little paint...and as grandma used to say...some elbow grease, and she'll be turning dirt in no time!

How does the shaft hook up to the PTO is my Question, I want to fit something on my 990 but it looks like the PTO is up way to high to run a shaft straight back without hitting the transaxle.

i can't believe you stumbled onto that gem. i'm jealous.
did you ever get it hooked up?

an attachment manual shows how to hook it all up, using the 3 point system.
the driveshaft does come in under, and there are pivot brackets that hang off of the lift arms, and attach to the sides of the tiller gearbox. wrbourget, don't forget that these things operate low, in the dirt.
that manual is here in the MTD section as form 770-7478.

i figured i'd have to convert an old engined tiller, ...with my budget.

Tried to hook up the tiller to the 990. I knew that my draft arms would need some work which was simple to just make one new one. So far so good, then the bad news I had not planned for, the drive shaft does not fit. the rectangle hole on the tiller is different than the square hole on the mower drive! :mad2: I just assumed that they would have the same size drive shafts. What is odd is the tiller drive shaft has the same rectangle hole as the 1855 MMM deck drive. I don't want to scrap the Mtd deck so I guess I need to find the parts to make a new drive shaft for the tiller that will match the tractor's shaft.

My pictures won't upload !

Got impacient today and made the mower drive shaft (7/8 sq) into a tiller drive (3/4 x 7/8). Man will this thing dig! I'll use the MF-135 to work the garden down first but this will shure save some time between the rows and before planting. Have to watch ebay for another mower drive.
