I think it should. I haven't tried all these myself yet.

huh... you say a PH8A or a PH 16 will work/ that is great as I have a Jeep a Dakota and Durango, so I keep those filters all the time anyway/  somewhere here in the Ariens forum, I saw a reference to a different fram number.

Dealing with cars and trucks basically all my life I have been in filter catalogs a bunch. They always show different filters for hydro fluid than for engine oil even though the thread size and filter canister look identical.  What is the difference between a filter designed for oil vs hydraulic fluid? It seems they could consolidate about 1/2 their line but there must be a reason that they make a different filter for these applications?

Actual hydraulic fluid has a different density than motor oil. I assume that the filter has slightly different build.

OK but since this one actually wants 5w30 motor oil in it an "oil filter" should be OK? I just returned from Big R (farm store like TSC)

where I looked in their Purolator catalog cross reference section and while not all of those numbers were listed (the WIX one and the Ariens one weren't) the AC one crosses to a Purolator 14670 which is what my Dodges and my jeep Wrangler take... so I always have those here.   I saw  Fram PH 8A and PH 16 on the list as "equivalents" above,  (same filter, just one has a shorter case) which are the same as that Purolator number that I mentioned.
I want to change the one on my tractor since it has 1750 hours on the meter and I have no idea if it has ever been changed before.

I don't know that one. It would be on the NH and the early Ariens.

I am trying to figure out the same thing.

Mine is a GT14 which I think is a early model Ariens. I am hoping that it takes the same hydro filter as the GT20 which is a Wix 51410. Do these take the 5w30 motor oil in the rear?

From what I understand, model #931001 was a 12 hp, #931002 14 hp, 931003 12 hp. They are the ones with the Vickers. The higher model numbers should all have a Sunstrand. It has been awhile since I found that filter info, I can't remember where I got it.

yeah. once you see "the other one," it sticks out like a sore thumb, the differences between them. I have 1 of each now.
