My bolens ST180 died over the weekend. Of course it has a B&G 18hp engine. Does anyone know of a direct replacement for this engine?I looked up in the parts catalog and it says it is a 422707 product number. Any help would be appreciiated.

Welcome to the Forum! :wave:

I dont know much about that series Bolens, but would it possibly be cheaper to buy a whole running tractor and use it for parts to fix yours?

What exactly happened to the engine?

:wave: old tractor man Welcome to GTTalk! I'm not much help in the Bolens arena, but we're sure glad to have you here. I will say that I agree with Bolens 1000 that a parts machine, if you can find one, is the way to go. We hope that you enjoy the forum. We'd also love to see some pics of it when you get the time!

when i replaced the engine in my 1600H I used a craftsman tractor engine. I did have to tear the outer parts of the engine apart and put in the bolens parts such as the coil, flywheel, charging system under the flywheel, shroud parts, exhaust etc etc.... I think That as long as you measure the difference from the bolt holes( measure from center of hole to center of hole) where the engine bolts to the frame and write them down and make sure the replacement engine has the same measurements and you make sure you swap over all the bolens parts you should be ok. If you really want to go into a swap look for a bigger 18+ HP engine for more power!!! LOL!! Also make sure crank diameter is the same so your pulley and or Pto will fit on it as well....

It's in the thread title.
It took a bullet.:shoot3::shoot3:
That's very common, isn't it?
If they don't work, and after all the yellin and screamin ends, and the dust settles, isn't
that the next choice?:D
A couple of my old parts units have what appear to be entry wounds.

That certainly eliminates the conundrum of "do I keep it for parts or scrap it?" :bigrofl:
