wow, i talk alot !
ok back to questions if you all don't mind, while i wait for the carb. adapter i was thinking of polishing the aluminum intake manifold, i can't get inside with a dremel tool, what can i polish the insides with without killing my wallet and wearing the aluminum walls too thin, bead blasting ? sand blasting with walnut shells ?
thanks

If polishing is all you want to do, then you might want to try soda blasting.

i was on the net reading up on porting and polishing heads, i have done chevy v-8 engines and briggs flat heads, but never a semi hemi head, while looking for a machine shop around me to shave the heads i stumbled across a motorcycle forum which talks about porting heads and one person ported twin cylinder semi hemi heads and loss 5 hp,
i know that semi hemi heads are offered to lower compresstion and burn fuel better in some engines,
anyone with experience dealing with semi hemi heads please comment,
thanks,
trowel

the heads the guy messed up was a little different from mines, it was semi hemi with a deck, he smoothed out the deck (squish area), the lack of a good sharp squish results in somewhat of a 45 degree advance timing to work and needs a high dome piston to make up the difference meaning having to mill out the reminding rounded deck, my engine's heads don't have the deck and comes with high dome pistons, just a valve job and grinding of the valve lip is needed with polishing of the exhaust (how i usally do heads), i don't like to go crazy with porting,
this is what my heads look like, if only it really was true hemi heads,

Yes, this is a unique engine, & very few out there own one. The 4AO32 on my backhoe has a problematic carb also, as well as my 2AO16. I may end up dropping a Kohler into my backhoe, then tinkering with the 4AO engine, possibly a carb retrofit like you're working on.

Trowel, thanks for posting on this engine. I guess they a more unusual than I thought. I've been reading (lurking) along as you go, trying to understand what you are up against. Keep it going, you never know when a new member may come up with one of these. Heck, I may find one myself. At least I know what it looks like now.
