I have a project I have to do out of necessity .I am going to build a dump trailer to haul behind my Massey 1655.It is going to have a deck size of 4' x 8',tandem axles with walking beam suspension,and I'm going to make my own hubs and spindles from ford mustang front end parts because I have a good supply of them.I'm just going to turn the rotors down on the lathe until I am left with just the hub and stud flange.Also I am using the spindles too,I'll have to cut the steering arm off and then turn it down on the lathe.As soon as I get my digital camera up and running,I will take some pictures.

Sounds interesting.......Back a few years, we used to use the front spindles from AMC products (Gremlin, Hornet) for trailers.....They were held on with 4 bolts..made it real easy. They are probably getting hard to find these days

I do know where there is an old Gremlin, but I'm sure there is hardly any of them left.Anyway, I have lots of mustang parts kicking around.You know the old saying "use what you got".

Sounds like a plan Maynard. That should work out pretty good for you. AMC must have used those 4 bolt spindles for a very long time. I have a couple of them that came off of a Rambler from the mid 50's

Sounds like a very cool project Maynard. I would love to see pics and details as I wouldn't mind building a dump trailer for our garden tractors for around the new place and also use it at the tractor shows in the parades.

I rubbed my eyes real hard & looked again....yep, I think that's what he said George! Pics soon from Maynard!:dancingbanana:

I look forward to the project too, as I also "want" to build a dump trailer. Mine would be much smaller though, single axle, like 42" wide x 60" long. I have all it takes to build one, even the hydraulics....just not the time.:mecry:

030.jpg Hi;
approx. 12 years ago I built a homebuilt dump trailer with a hyd. cantilever hoist built from a photograph in a farm catalog. I did not want to overload the tractor capacity nor the trailer capacity either, so I used an oil drum as the dump box itself. I incorporated a manual dump too, in case I didn't want to use the hoist, and made a trip lever for the tailgate too. The photos are self explanatory, hope they help.
