my kohler 161 carb would not quit leaking gas out the vent right outside the choke,i belieive it is called an atmospheric vent, bought a rebuilt kit and new float, installed and engine ran good but it still leaked out the vent,i dont know if the float is set exactly right or if the fast needle valve is the problem any help would be grateful

On the carbs I have played with, this is a sign of the needle valve not seating, the float sinking (crack, letting gas inside it), or the float too high.

First step for me, take the bowl off & turn the gas on... See if you can shut off the flow with the float.
If you can, read up on float position and check to make sure the float isn't "gas-logged". If it won't shut off, odds are the needle isn't seating. Could be the seat, could be the needle. Word of caution, I have seen the wrong length valves in the rebuild kits before. This will really mess you up.

Good luck. Let us know how you are making out!
