Thats a nice dilemma to have. I like the looks of the 140 better myself. I recently got a 314 because I figure the chances of me getting a 140 locally are about 0. Your 2 tractors are very similiar underneath. If I was in your situation I would keep the tractor that is in the best condition for a working tractor. If I was keeping it to restore and show only I would keep the 140.

My biggest issue is i dont have room to store both inside. It kills me to leave one out. I love both of them. thanks for making want to keep both. I think resto on the 140 300 as a dailey mower?

Ronnie K,
It sure looks to me that the 140 is a 1968 which is the first year that they came out. Very much a keeper . If it was up to me I would restore the 140 and not use much . Does it still have the original 12 HP Kohler in it? And the seat looks to be in very good shape which is another plus. Is the serial number on the side of the pedistal or is it by the key switch. Also looks to still have covers for the hydralic coupler on it. Very nice find and a good one to restore. Keep the 300 to do the work.

Mark it appears to be a 68 but has external discs not integrals. s/n 5725m. engine is a 12 but looks like it had a long block. origanal tins though. seat is fadded but soft and unripped. I have the deck to but I put it on the 300 to mow the yard while I rebuild that deck. Bought it for the deck 500.00. then i realized how nice the tractor was. Gave me the origanal op and parts manuals withit too.

One more distinguishing feature.... it does not have turning brakes .... must be a 1968.

Also for your information the early 140's which have disc brakes also have a hydro that is obsolete .... no parts available. If the 140 is a later model (sn 30,000 and above) the hydro is the same one used in the 300 series and most parts are still available. Also the later s.n. 140's all were equipped with shoe brakes. Lots of the early 140 tractors are still in use but if you have hydro issues your only parts source is the salvage yard.

The 140 is nice and I would think you should be able to sell the 300 and use the change to give some love to the 140. Congrats on a great buy.
