I aquired a MF16 awhile back and the "16" button decals were missing on both sides of the hood, it seems that the majority of the other MF16s with original paint I see on the web also have them removed... this "phenomena" only seems to revolve around the MF16. Why?

It’s funny you posted this, I also have noticed the same thing through the years. One of my 16’s didn’t have the “16” decals on the hood and no sign that they were removed by a previous owner.

Maybe, if they are later 1976 models, they ran out of the 16 decals and knowing it was the last of these tractors, they didn’t want to order more and have a bunch left over.

Just a guess.

I am thinking the same thing, They were only offered for 2 model years

New design was most likely in the works when they first brought them out

Only order certain amount of decals thinking they wouldn't sell many till the new design came out

I'm just guess aswell

I took a closer look at the hood on my 16 that has the original paint and there’s a faint outline of the “16” badge. This one has been put to the side until I can get to it so sometimes I have to take another look at things on it. My other 16 was also missing the decals but it was repainted at some point before I acquired it. So this has me thinking maybe they all did have them but the 16 badges weren’t on as high quality material as the other decals and therefore they’ve dissolved over the years due to sun and such. Just a thought.

Just for sake of argument, have you ever seen a partially desolved "16" decal? I know you know your Massey's, so be honest

I haven’t seen many 16’s up close and in person just the two I have. But yes usually the decals are there or not. Mine doesn’t look dissolved so to speak, just a faint remainder of a decal. But I came across this doing a quick search on the web. Might be hint of what’s happening?

maybe because they are black the sun is harder on them compared to the other silver decals
