I own a 1990 520-8 with a bad onan engine. are there any other garden tractors that are compatible with the 520-8 attachments.

Purchased new mow deck last year, tiller attachment still in great shape.

Or is there another engine that can be used on that model. Local repair shop claims nothing can be done

Can you explain that more? I wouldn't get rid of a 520 just on his say so.

Local repair shops says that because they don't want to touch the Onan. What is "bad" about it? Onans are able to be rebuilt/repaired and parts are readily available. Are you mechanically inclined enough to dive into it?

520 attachments will fit any 300/400 series tractors. Yes most shops won't want to mess with an Onan as they know the repair price might get out of hand.

But, we have people on here who won't charge you the labor to talk you through it.

Depending on how bad the engine is, might be just as cheap to find a newer P series to replace it.

The 520-8 is highly prized amount wheel horse people.
They only made 225 of them.
As it sits with a broken engine and a new deck people will still pay around 1500-1800.00 for it.
So don’t let it go cheap.
I’m currently restoring a 520-8 and will be asking 2,800.00 it. It does have an optional electric lift and I just put new rings and a valve job but, still you have a rather rare tractor.

Exactly !, Dont listen to small engine shops, Onans are very pricey to rebuild, some times you can find them online, grab a spare tractor, My Son has the 516H Horse, even though it just started Surging last mowing, were gonna swing a carb rebuild next week, If you ever buy one, always do a Compression test, seems like the rear cylinders always have a issue ?
