so i found a cub cadet 71 for 100 bucks. i grabbed it. the starter gen works, i jumped the starter gen directly. no spark on points or plug, good compression. any ideas? i get 12 volts to the starter gen when i put the battery on the battery cables. these little cubs r nice, but i need to get rid of it soon since i dumped my last 100 bucks on it.

Could be in the wiring or the coil or points themself burnt or outta adjustment. I would just double check the points for adjustment and make sure they are clean. Then put battery power to the switch side of the coil and see if it has any spark when its turned over. If no I'd say a bad coil, if yes it is possibly in the wiring or key switch. Good luck and give us some pics.
