You need to give more info such as model and year. Did You check the Manuals Section(3 free downloads per day) for the tractors' manuals? Good Luck, Rick

So you are speaking of the gear on the hydro motor that mates to the big gear in the hydro?

All I know is I heard it called a "bull gear".

Never seen one, not clear on how it works. Might just be a shaft with two pulleys, or a gear box to change vertical to horitontal.

That is commonly called a mule drive, not bull gears!
