Can you guys clear up which direction the fluid is flowing through this filter? Is it returning to the transmission or coming from it? And what fluid do you guys use to fill them with ? SAE30 motor oil? Or universal hydraulic/transmission tractor fliud?

The fluid is going back to the transmission, that's why it's in the return line. I use the Universal fluid.

Thanks the P.O. had the filter in backwards. That kinda confused me a little. And would explained why the fitting is pushed out of the housing.

I'll stop and get a couple gallons of the universal fluid for when I change this out

got a filter installed, drained the fluid and filled it back up with universal tractor fluid. the old fluid was really clean but was unsure what it was.  found the motor mounts, seat pan mounts, and brake material at mcmaster-carr. still having trouble getting the motor to run smoothly. i believe its the valves not seating correctly as the exhaust was stuck open when i got it. soaked it in pb blaster and freed it up, got it running but it still pops and idles erradicly. im slowly getting there!
