I'm buying an odd set-up from fella in PA, Sam Minder lll, who flips lots of PK's. He's on the Facebook forums. Anyway, he had newer 18hp Kohler V-twin,but with the older bellhouse and clutch from early PK. I have not received yet, we are trying my first Fastenal delivery, will show pix later. Not sure if I want to try to put in my 24", which I blew this fall or keep for one of my newer plastic kings. Not too interested in cutting my hood, so that may not be in the picture for it. The Plastic kings I have have 20 hp, one I have is blown, but is same engine in most cases, just being 18 instead.

If you don't want to cut your hood you could buy an extra one.  I saw one on ebay a while back.  Just paint it to match. Save you old one in case you get another old engine.

Received engine today, Fastenal. Not sure what I have yet, be spring before I look at it. Had to chuckle, extra pump belt strapped inside bellhousing. If belt wears or breaks, one can use this one. No splitting of tractor then.
